Commercial EV Charging for Hawaii Businesses

Every commercial property with parking hits the same question eventually: drivers expect EV charging, so how do you get it installed?

OceanHead Solar and Electric offers two ways in. Buy your DC fast chargers outright and own the asset from day one (higher upfront cost, but eligible for a Hawaii Energy rebate up to $35,000), or let OceanHead install, own, and maintain the equipment on your property for one low annual fee (a fraction of the upfront cost, with service and maintenance included).

Whether your property needs two chargers or an entire fleet, we're equipped to handle either path.

Finally check EV Charging off your to-do list.

OceanHead Solar and Electric handles the full installation and electrical integration in-house, site assessment, panel and switchgear requirements, permitting, and the actual DC fast charger installation, licensed work from a team that does this daily, not outsourced to a subcontractor.

At every stage, OceanHead reimburses your property for the electricity used, roughly HECO's base rate plus 20 cents per kWh. EV drivers pay for what they use, plus a small premium, directly through an app on their own phone, nothing routes through your front desk or your utility bill.

At low charging volume, your property pays the annual service fee. Once usage hits a certain point, that fee gets waived entirely. Past that, the arrangement flips from a cost into income as your property starts participating in revenue share.

Getting started requires a 50 percent deposit against your first year's service fee, with the remainder due once the system's operational. Simple installations, no trenching or long conduit runs, start around $2,000 a year over a 10-year agreement. More complex installs can run $5,000 or more a year.

Prefer to Own Your Charging Stations?

OceanHead Solar and Electric also installs DC fast charging equipment for property owners who'd rather purchase outright. Cost runs roughly $60,000 base, plus yearly maintenance and software fees, and the asset belongs to your business from day one.

Hawaii Energy currently offers a rebate of up to $35,000 per networked DC fast charging station, available on a first-come, first-served basis, and it goes to whoever owns the equipment, meaning if you buy outright, that rebate is yours.

How Installation Works, Either Way

OceanHead Solar and Electric manages every commercial EV charging project in-house, whether you choose the service program or ownership.

  • Site assessment: We evaluate your property's electrical capacity, parking layout, and where charging stations make the most sense for traffic flow.

  • System design: Charger count and placement sized around your property's actual usage.

  • Permitting and utility interconnection: Managed directly with the Department of Planning and Permitting and HECO's commercial process.

  • Installation: Our own crew, coordinated around your property's operating hours.

  • Ongoing maintenance: Included automatically under the service program, available separately for owned systems.
